Mid Century Modern Architectural Style

In 1945, World War II brought new materials of steel and plywood to architecture. These homes focus on simple design and connection to the outdoors. Known for large windows, open space and changes in elevation, this style flourished through the 1980’s. Split levels, partial walls, and many entrances are common features. The Triangle is home to many mid-century modernist homes. With a preference to design a home around the natural areas rather than clearing the area to suit a specific design, some of these homes even bridge over streams!
